Children
continue to learn and develop their speech and language
skills. As they acquire new "rules", they sometimes overuse
them. They may say things like "I eated it", "there are some
childrens". They use language for a number of purposes: to
request, comment, question, answer, gain attention, protest,
greet and perform social routines. Children's understanding of
language is usually greater than their language use.
